Ramakrishna Math is a devout association for men brought into presence by Ramakrishna (1836–1886), a nineteenth century holy person of Bengal. The witticism of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission is: "For one's own salvation, and for the welfare of the world" Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai is the principal branch focus of the Ramakrishna Order in Southern India. It was begun in the year 1897 by Swami Ramakrishnananda, one of the immediate devotees of Ramakrishna. Other than Swami Ramakrishnananda, the Math was gone by Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Brahmananda, Swami Nirmalananda,Swami Shivananda, Swami Abhedananda, Swami Premananda, Swami Niranjanananda, Swami Trigunatitananda, and Swami Vijnanananda.

History

In February 1897, Swami Vivekananda came back to Calcutta from the West. At Madras, when enthusiasts asked for Swamiji to begin a lasting focus, Swamiji had said, 'I should send you one who is more standard than the most customary Brahmins of the South and who is in the meantime exceptional in performing venerate, scriptural information and reflection on God.'He implied Swami Ramakrishnananda, who was sent in March 1897.
